Bruce Wood has been researching ideas for Outdoor Group activities, trying to find outings that people with a variety of interests and ability levels might like. Just such an opportunity arose through overlapping networks with the GSU Outdoor Recreation Dept. and the Benton MacKaye Trail Association. He immediately contacted the leaders of the activity and they look forward to including us.

You Are Invited to the National Trails Day Event, Saturday, June 1, 2019, from 9:00 AM – 1:30 PM at Vogel State Park. Meet your group in the parking lot beside the lake.

Day’s Events Include:

10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. Family Friendly Hike, George Owen – Leader

I signed up for the Trail Work option.

Vogel State Park is a bit more than one hour (55 miles) from MLUUC, south of Blairsville, GA. We can meet at MLUUC at 7:45 and carpool. Or, individuals can drive to Vogel on their own and meet by the park’s lake.

Event leaders need a headcount from us as soon as we can provide it. We certainly don’t want to limit this invitation to those who signed up for the Outdoor Group. Let’s bring a small MLUUC army and have a fun time in the outdoors.

From: MLUUC – 2502 Tails Creek Rd., Ellijay. To: Vogel State Park, 405 Vogel State Park Rd, Blairsville, GA. 1 hr. 15 min. 55 Miles.

East on Tails Creek Rd. through Ellijay.

Turn left/north onto US-76 E/GA 515. 36.0 mi

In Blairsville, turn right/south onto Bob Head St. Curve east. 0.1 mi

Turn right/south onto Pat Haralson Dr. 308 ft

At the traffic circle, take the 2nd exit onto Cleveland St./southeast. 0.7 mi

Continue south onto US-129 S/US-19 S/ GA 11. 9.6 mi

Turn right onto Vogel State Park Rd to Vogel State Park. Follow signs to lake.
