Endorse our faith principles for a Green New Deal

2019 FEB 27 – The Green New Deal resolution in Congress presents an opportunity to address two serious threats facing our country and our world: global warming and escalating economic inequality.  Global warming is endangering the very ecosystems that sustain life, and rising economic inequality is undermining the fabric of our democracy. As people of faith called to love our neighbors, do justice, and be stewards of Creation, we cannot remain silent. Policies to build an inclusive clean energy economy can help address both of these serious crises facing our shared home.

Pledge your support for a Green New Deal that includes equitable climate policy and gets us to net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

We believe the following key components are essential to any “Green New Deal” legislation: Emissions reduction targets in line with keeping global warming to 1.5 C and a goal of 100% clean energy, a just transition for communities and workers, climate resilience and disaster preparedness, and support for poor countries on the front lines of climate impacts.

If you agree, please add your name so that we can let our members of Congress know that people of faith and conscience all over this country demand a fair and equitable Green New Deal.

With extreme weather, including mega-storms, the polar vortex, and devastating wildfires, Americans are waking up to the threat of global warming. Will the U.S. Congress also wake up in time to take meaningful action? That depends largely on whether they think their constituents care. Make your voice heard today.

Our government is a public trust and your involvement is a vital ingredient. Working together, we can ensure our values are reflected and get a fair and equitable Green New Deal that protects our planet while building an inclusive clean energy economy.

In solidarity,

Susan Stephenson
