2019 FEB 10 Service

On 2019 February 10, Mountain Light UUC welcomes Rev. Barry Whittemore. The topic of his sermon will be: “Sola Gratia or Works Alone? Who’s in charge here anyway?”

What do we mean by Grace? What are the long term implications of its rejection? These topics will be explored in the context of Unitarian, Universalist, and UU history. Special attention will be paid to the theological conversations that did not take place at the time of the 1961 merger of the two churches.

The strength of Rev. Whittemore’s sermons is his expertise in applying our 7 Unitarian Universalist Principles to the process of spiritual growth, to which we all aspire in our own way, and to our personal systems of moral reasoning, which we use to live an honorable life and build our beloved community.

Dr. Whittemore is a retired Unitarian Universalist minister who served at the Georgia Mountains Unitarian Universalist Church in Dahlonega and congregations in Alabama, North Carolina, and Tennessee. He currently teaches Appalachian History at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega.

Mountain Light is located at 2502 Tails Creek Road (GA-282 West), in Ellijay GA. We are an official Welcoming Congregation of the UUA, welcoming guests of all faiths, ethnicities, and gender identifications. Fellowship with coffee and snacks begins at 10 AM, followed by the service from 10:30 to 11:30.

Youth Religious Education (RE) is offered on the second and fourth Sundays of most months; however, children are always welcome to attend our services in the sanctuary. For information about our 7 Unitarian Universalist Principles and future services, please visit mluuc.org.
