2019 JAN 06 Sunday Service

On 2019 January 06, Mountain Light Unitarian Universalist Church (MLUUC) welcomes Pastor Sharon Watkins. Her topic will be “Restoring Common Decency”.  The topic lends itself to this question: When and how has “common decency” been diminished?  In recent years, the lack of commonly held values has become a frightening norm among our country’s leadership. While espousing a false morality, many have ignored our culture’s and humanity’s commonly held values.  What happened?  How do we empower the thinking and behavior of compassion and empathy in our culture?

Sharon Watkins is a native of Pickens County.  She holds degrees in education, psychology, and theology.  Serving churches as a pastor in the United Methodist Church has taught her that social justice is a “hands on” priority.  Sharon was instrumental in starting the Gilmer County Food Pantry.   Always, Sharon’s first priority is advocacy for the community.  Sharon lives in the Coosawattee River Resort with her husband, Jerry and their dog, Baby.  Currently, she serves as President of the Board for Gilmer Arts.

Mountain Light is located at 2502 Tails Creek Road (GA-282 West), in Ellijay GA.  We are an official Welcoming Congregation of the UUA, welcoming guests of all faiths, ethnicities, and gender identifications.  Fellowship with coffee and snacks begins at 10 AM, followed by the service from 10:30 to 11:30.

Youth Religious Education (RE) is offered on the second and fourth Sundays of most months; however, children are always welcome to attend our services in the sanctuary.  For information about our 7 Unitarian Universalist Principles and future services, please visit mluuc.org.
