Georgia Interfaith Power & Light Update

Greetings GIPL Friends,

The first annual Coastal Green Team Summit is one month away, and we can’t wait to see you there.  On Saturday, October 20, GIPL will be at First Baptist Church St. Simons Island and spend the day discussing a variety of ways to green your community of faith.  All people of faith from congregations across the state are invited to join us for this interfaith celebration featuring an inspiring keynote address: Profoundly Located: Cultivating a Sense of Place, by Candler School of Theology professor, Dr. Jennifer Ayres, educational workshops, and a farm-to-table lunch.  Registration is only $15!  So, register yourself and your Green Team/Creation Care Team today.

Curious about our workshops? We will be offering four, of which you can select 2 to attend:

Green Team Training 101 – Rev. Kate McGregor Mosley, Georgia Interfaith Power & Light (GIPL)
Sustainable Sanctuaries – Shane Totten, Southface Energy Institute
Faithful Eco-Advocacy 101 – One Hundred Miles
Contemplative Activism: The Power of Prayer for Creation Care – Rev. Mary Beene

Waste LESS in the 2018-19: Food Waste Challenge

Food Waste Weekend 2018 is Friday, September 21 – Sunday, September 23.  Will you pledge to waste LESS food (and waste less in general) this coming year?  Food Waste Weekend is a shared opportunity for clergy and lay leaders of all faiths to raise awareness on food waste and hunger.  Join congregations across the country to highlight this emerging social and environmental justice challenge plaguing our communities.  GIPL has comipled a list of ideas and resources, on the GIPL website, for ways your congregation can participate in next weekend’s Food Waste Challenge.
