Sunday Service 2018 JUL 29

On Sunday, 2018 July 29, Mountain Light Unitarian Universalist Church in Ellijay will welcome Dr. Lee Shiver to be our speaker at our worship service.  The title of his sermon will be “Do Something”.  Dr. Shiver’s career as a professional educator spanned 39 years in several locations in Florida and Georgia.  He served as a teacher, principal, school system superintendent, and state-level education department official, including service as Pickens County Superintendent of Schools and Director of the Georgia School for the Deaf.

Moved deeply by the many recent mass shootings in the United States, especially in schools like the murders in Parkland, Florida, Dr. Shiver will share his insights about the problem of gun violence and the refusal of our politicians to take rational action to reduce it.  Lee will explain how it is morally incumbent upon all of us to do something about gun violence in general, and particularly about controlling the guns that enraged mass murderers are most likely to use to kill us.  He will also explore how his moral arguments and practical recommendations reinforce and exemplify our Seven Unitarian Universalist Principles.

Mountain Light UUC, 2502 Tails Creek Road (GA-282 West), in Ellijay, is a Welcoming Congregation.  We welcome guests of all faiths, ethnicities and gender identifications.  Our coffee and fellowship begins at 10AM, followed by the service from 10:30 to 11:30.

Our Religious Education program is in recess for the summer.  Children are welcome to attend our services in the sanctuary.  For information about our Seven Unitarian Universalist Principles and our future services, please go to mluuc.org.
