Kumandi Drums & Healing

On Sunday, 2018 January 28, Mountain Light UUC welcomes our friends from Emerson UUC. Chuck Cogliandro and the Emerson Drummers bring their 21-year collaboration to Elliay as they present a performance as part of our Sunday service. The group honors the deep cultural roots of the people of West Africa, from whom the music comes and for whom the music provides strength, connection, life force and celebration.
Chuck Cogliandro teaches African drumming at Emerson, and he has been their Musical Director since 1996 September.  The Emerson Drummers have always welcomed people of all backgrounds and levels of experience.  Hundreds of beginner drummers have joined the group and participated over the years, performing at music festivals, schools, private parties, professional conferences, worship services for all faiths, and many benefit fundraisers including the annual ACFB Hunger Walk.  Visit their website: Kumandi.com
Chuck Cogliandro will offer a 90-minute drumming workshop after the service at $15 per person. Youth under the age of 13 are $5.00.  The drums people need for the workshop are djembe or ashiko drums.  Some extra drums will be available, but if you have your own or can borrow some for the class to use, please let us know. To secure your place in the workshop, please email Gayle Wood or see her at church.
