Mountain Light Unitarian Universalist Church (MLUUC) in Ellijay welcomes Dr. Barry Whittemore to speak at our Sunday morning worship service on November 12. The title of Dr. Whittemore’s sermon is “Traditional Answers for the Modern Derangement.” Barry’s sermon will look at a couple of serious problems in the modern world and their sometimes surprising sources and ask why are we doing virtually nothing to address them. The hopeful answers will also surprise (and not necessarily please) many.

Dr. Whittemore is a retired Unitarian Universalist minister having served at the Georgia Mountains Unitarian Universalist Church in Dahlonega. He has also served congregations in Birmingham, AL, Outlaw’s Bridge Universalist church in North Carolina and Holston Valley Unitarian Universalist Church in Tennessee. Dr. Whittemore has 27 years of teaching experience ranging from high school, community college, seminaries, the Mountain School for Congregational Leadership, and Carnegie Mellon University.

He holds a Bachelor’s degree from Virginia Poly Technical University, Masters’ degrees from Radford University, a Ph.D. degree from Carnegie Mellon University, and a Master of Divinity degree from Duke University. Dr. Whittemore currently teaches Appalachian Studies at the University of North Georgia in Dahlonega. His greatest pleasure comes from traditional southern mountain Old Time music and dance.

Mountain Light, 2502 Tails Creek Road (282 West), in Ellijay is a Welcoming Congregation. We welcome guests of all faiths, ethnicities and gender identification. Our coffee and fellowship begins at 10 a.m., followed by the service from 10:30 to 11:30.
