Sunday, August 13

Our worship service speaker at Mountain Light Unitarian Universalist Church (MLUUC) in Ellijay on Sunday, August 13, will be Ed Wolpert.  The title of Ed’s sermon will be “Growing up Jewish: Personal Reflections of a Secular Jew.”  After a brief introduction about Judaism, Anti-Semitism, and Jews in America, Ed will share his personal experiences and reflections on growing up Jewish in a non-Jewish milieu.

Ed is a member of MLUUC and has shared his insights with us many times.  His most recent sermon was “Bringing Up Father,” a tag-team, collaborative presentation with his daughter on Father’s Day, which we all enjoyed and found inspiring.  Ed became a Unitarian Universalist in 1966 and was President of the Unitarian Universalist Church in Muncie, Indiana.

Ed’s professional background is in education and in business and financial planning.  His career in education started as an elementary teacher in Brooklyn, NY, and grew to becoming Dean of the School of Education at Georgia College & State University.  His Doctorate degree is from the University of Kansas.  As a financial planner, advisor, and private investor with more than five decades of investing experience, Ed was President of Oconee Financial Planning Services and has written several books about financial planning and options trading.

Mountain Light, 2502 Tails Creek Road (282 West), in Ellijay is a Welcoming Congregation.  We welcome guests of all faiths, ethnicities and gender identification.  Our coffee and fellowship begins at 10 a.m., followed by the service from 10:30 to 11:30.

Religious Education is provided for children.  Children are also welcome to attend our services in the sanctuary.  For information about our 7 Unitarian Universalist Principles and our future services, please go to mluuc.org.
